What Am I Reading?

Hey everyone! I’m back again and I felt like writing a little about books because… books are cool and reading is awesome, too.

So I’ve mentioned this in a previous blog post but this coming year I’m taking AP English and AP Psychology (don’t kill me but I’m already quite excited for school to start back up; I’ve just always liked the start of the school year, not sure why!). I don’t know about you guys but my school gives us summer assignments to do that we need to have done by the start of the year in the fall. For math, there are usually packets with problems that we need to complete, for English we usually need to read something and write an essay, and so on. This summer I need to read a couple of things:

  • For AP English, I need to read certain sections from How To Read Literature Like A Professor and answer some questions about it. I actually have yet to purchase this book, and although I only need to read a few sections, the course will use this book throughout the year so I might as well buy the full book.
  • Aditionally, I had to pick one novel from a list of three which I need to read and write about. I chose to read All The Light We Cannot See. I read this book this past autumn so I already know quite a bit about it, however I figured I would be a little bit ahead and could work on the things I haven’t already read. It had quite an impact on me. It’s one of those books that you finish reading and close and you’re like, “Okay let’s do something else” but soon enough you realize that you almost can’t function because you just finished this incredible book. Is that just me?? I don’t know, I get this feeling whenever I finish a good book. It’s set during World War II and one of my favorite things about it is the fact that it’s told from the point of view of different characters and the imagery is so vivid, you almost feel as if you’re standing right there. It’s amazing.
  • Lastly, for AP Psychology I need to read yet another book. This one, however, is nonfiction and is actually very interesting. Quiet: The Power of Introverts In A World That Can’t Stop Talking discusses the beneficial aspects of being an introvert in the modern world in which extroversion is frequently favored. Being an introvert myself, it’s very interesting to read studies and trials in which introversion proves to be a beneficial trait. I’m very shy also, and I used wish I could be more sociable or outgoing, but while I’m reading this book I’m finding out that sometimes being quiet has its benefits 🙂
  • In addition to school, I also picked out a book to read for myself. The one I was drawn to at Barnes and Noble is called Confessions of A Surgeon. It basically details the life of a general surgeon. Since I’m interested in a career in medicine, this book is super interesting to me. If you’re curious about the daily life of a surgeon, I highly suggest giving this book a read!

Okay wow sorry I basically spat words at you but hopefully this was somewhat interesting and you got some more insight into what I’m reading this summer, if you were curious!

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought of them! If you haven’t, do you have any summer work you need to do this summer?

Thanks so much for reading! I’ll see ya 🙂
