*Psst before you start reading, play this in the background if you want, it’ll really set the tone*
There’s something very special about the piano but I can’t explain it.
Something about the way it looks, the two black keys followed by three black keys with white keys in the middle, just makes me so happy.
It looks pristine, clean, sharp, polished, inviting, classy.
Although I don’t have a real piano at home (I have an electric Clavinova from Yamaha), it’s still exciting to sit down at my piano bench that is nearly 8 years old and place my hands on the keys, thinking about whether I want to go Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, or Debussy today, or even all four, depending on my mood and the amount of time I have.
Specifically, I love Debussy and Chopin. A lot of their pieces are very gentle and calm and are perfect for daydreaming, which I so often partake in. Nocturne in C sharp minor by Chopin is one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve played on the piano. I played it for the first time about four years ago and it still gives me butterflies.
Clair de Lune.
No words.
This piece… I just…ugh. It’s gorgeous. It gives me life.
It’s by Debussy, if you didn’t know, and I’m chipping away at it very slowly currently, trying to figure out the flats and sharps that he springs on you by surprise. I can’t wait to be able to play it all the way through.
The piece itself makes me think of so many things:
- dew on grass on a brisk autumn/spring morning
- falling snow in December (yes, December specifically)
- watching the sunrise
- Kazakhstan mountains; the greenery, the rivers, the sky
- RAIN
- London
- sitting at a coffeeshop while it’s raining
- old books that smell like old books (I love that smell)
- sipping tea
- candles
- reading a good book while all cozy under piles of blankets
Clearly, I love cozy things a little too much but you get me.
Anyway, I’m done with my little ramble now. Hope you’re having (or had) a great day and apologies for not posting on time last week, I was on holiday in Cancun 🙂 It was amazing but unfortunately I have a huge pile of schoolwork I need to make up now, so I should probably go do that. Thanks for reading, if you’re still awake!
I’ll see you on Thursday!
PS: I will definitely be writing about Cancun in this Thursday’s post, so look out for that 😉
